Intelligent Bike Rack - Barker - Fall 2011

Intelligent Bike Rack - Barker - Fall 2011 Tube. Duration : 3.52 Mins.

Basically over the past few weeks.... we had to find problems around us. We made a list of these problems. We got in groups and selected one of these problems to solve using things we have learned. The problem was bike racks were not being used or used correctly. People park bikes on rails, trees, or anywhere else that is more convenient than on the bike rack. If we made it simple and you don't have to fiddle with an actual lock and chain and you only have one way to park your bike, there could be more spots to park your bike (nicely) in a given space, people would use them because it was easy and there are lots of "future implications" for the project. Basically works like this... There is a bolt (connecting rod) on the handle bars of the bike. There is also a RFID (Radio Frequency ID Tag) on the handle bars. We needed to elevate our tag so that it can be read by the tag reader in the lock (lock box) but in the "future", it will just be inside the handle bars. The bolt on handle bars is inserted into U-bolt, which serves as the bottom of the lock and holds bike in place. The Lock box senses the weight of the bike (being pulled down) and starts the program. The lock box reads the RFID tag to verify that a bike is there and not someone/thing is just pulling down on the lock box. The control box (to the left) talks to you and displays information. The control box says/displays for you to enter a 4 digit pin to lock your bike. You enter in your pin. The control box displays ...
